The Festival of Quilts is held each year in Birmingham in August and it is a great show; full of amazing quilts, lots of traders and a jam packed programme of workshops and lectures. I believe that almost 30,000 people attend every year over the four days. I spent three days at the Festival and during that time taught ten workshops, walked 45,000 steps, looked at lots of quilts, attended one workshop and one lecture and met lots of lovely people. I might just have done a little shopping too! It was an exhausting but invigorating time.
Mead Quilters is a local group that I belong to and last year we made a group quilt. Every member contributed blocks to the quilt. It was coordinated by Heather, our Chair who just loves EPP. Here is the quilt on display at the Festival of Quilts. It was wonderful to see it hanging in the exhibition.
There was a new category at the show this year and it was called The Joy of Sharing and it was for quilts where the makers just wanted to share a quilt and not be judged. I entered my Temperature Quilt in this category. It took me the year to make this quilt monitoring the high and low temperatures throughout the year.
There were so many quilts to see and I’m sure that I didn’t see all of them. I am just going to share two from the many photos that I took. The first is called Indigo Yogi and it was made by J Pudney. The detail was amazing.
The second is a quilt that was in the Sustainable category and had to be made from recycled materials. Look at the details on this made by T Dunn.
